Nottingham Forest are still trying to sign Sam Johnstone – despite Crystal Palace rejecting a £10m bid earlier this week.

Well, Nuno Espirito Santo wants a new goalkeeper at the City Ground as the Portuguese tactician aims to keep Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Johnstone is said to be keen on getting back to playing regularly as he aims to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for UEFA EURO 2024 this summer – having lost his place to Dean Henderson following an injury.
That was according to Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports – who added that it may take a bid of £15m to bring Crystal Palace to the negotiating table.
Now – according to Aarons – Nottingham Forest actually put £10m on the table earlier this week, and remain in talks to sign Johnstone.
The journalist wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Nottingham Forest still trying to do a deal with Crystal Palace for England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. They rejected a £10m bid earlier this week”.
Nottingham Forest have alternative to Crystal Palace No.1
In our view, it is unlikely that Nottingham Forest bid as high as £15m for Johnstone, as those at the City Ground are already working on potential alternatives while also maintaining discussions over Johnstone.
A story from The Athletic claims that Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Matz Sels from Strasbourg and are ready to fly the 28-year-old into England for a medical.
David Ornstein did – however – add that Nottingham Forest are working on alternatives, so it could be presumed that Johnstone is the No.1 option with Sels lined up as a fallback.
