Goalscoring is – once again – a problem for Crystal Palace as those in the attacking department at Selhurst Park struggle.
Only Sheffield United and Luton have scored fewer than Crystal Palace’s tally of 14 goals in 14 Premier League outings this season.
That is presumably why Dougie Freedman had a look at signing Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry during the summer transfer window.
According to The Athletic, the Sweden international was on our shortlist, while Football Insider even claimed that a bid was sent.
Eventually, nothing materialised between Viktor Gyokeres and Crystal Palace – something that fans will surely be devastated about judging by his performances so far this season…

Well, the Swede eventually moved to Sporting CP in a deal worth £20m.
That seemed like a respectable fee for a 25-year-old who scored 22 goals in 50 appearances last season, and the Portuguese giants have surely already doubled their money.
Gyokeres has – so far – scored 13 goals in just 16 appearances for Sporting CP, while also providing six assists.
The Stockholm-born striker is clearly a superb forward, one who can create goals as well as score them.
Gyokeres – along with his 22 goals last season – also provided 12 assists for Coventry, so it really does feel as if Crystal Palace missed out on a real talent here.
Crystal Palace could have spent Dean Henderson money on Viktor Gyokeres
Much has been made of Crystal Palace’s odd decision to spend £20m on another goalkeeper in Dean Henderson when Sam Johnstone is performing so well.
While it remains to be seen if that deal works out for us, it currently feels as if that £20m fee would have been better spent on Gyokeres, given his stunning efforts in Portugal so far.
Nevertheless, that ship has now sailed – especially as the Sporting CP No.9 has a €100m (£87m) release clause – so hopefully, a deal can be done in January for a new forward, potentially PSG No.44 Huge Ekitike.
