Crystal Palace’s season has been disappointing to date, but ahead of this weekend expectations are high that things will get better.

Despite Oliver Glasner having pre-season ambitions of European football qualification, the start to this season has been far from matching these levels and ambitions.

Two defeats to Brentford and West Ham have been followed up by a draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea thanks to some excellence from Eberechi Eze.

However following four deadline-day additions, the squad is in a very strong place and things are expected to improve. Now ahead of facing Leicester City, both Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton have levelled their predictions.

Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton predict Crystal Palace vs Leicester City

Ahead of the Premier League returning, the predictions are now flying in with Paul Merson predicting the Eagles to walk out 3-0 winners.

Now he has been joined by both Shearer and Sutton, who are in full agreement over the game this weekend.

To start with, Sutton gave his predictions to the BBC, explaining that Crystal Palace would simply have too much for the Foxes here.

“Crystal Palace have made a slow start to the season and in fact, I’d even call it disappointing, but their wait for a first win of the new campaign won’t go on much longer.

“They should be a little bit too streetwise for Leicester, and I am finding it difficult to back the Foxes at the moment – it looks to me like they have got a long battle ahead of them to stay up.”

He then added a scoreline prediction of 2-1.

The Eagles picking up all three points appears to be the popular choice for this game as Shearer’s prediction was also that Crystal Palace would win.

Writing for Metro, Shearer insisted the forward players of Crystal Palace would simply be too much for Leicester to handle.

“This will be another tough game for Leicester, and I think with the forward players that Crystal Palace have, I’ll go for a home win.”

Oliver Glasner needs three points

After such an underwhelming start to the 2024/25 season, Glasner absolutely needs to secure all three points.

The Austrian manager is a victim of his own success, with last season’s excellent finale creating expectations so high that living up to it this season would be tricky to live up to these goals.

However, after a strong deadline day by Crystal Palace and also a positive result against Chelsea the season could be about to truly begin for the Eagles and therefore winning here is absolutely pivotal.

The next three games for Glasner could well decide the season and all three are definitely winnable.

If we had to predict the result, we’d say a comfortable win for the Eagles is the most likely outcome.
