It is now two losses from two for Crystal Palace and Chadi Riad’s debut has left much to be desired.

A debut in the Premier League can often be a huge culture shock for players from abroad, and Riad experienced that on Saturday afternoon.
His performance was far from impressive and does not fill us with confidence that he can plug the gap left by Andersen’s exit.
Fans have been reacting to the performance on X, with many criticising the young Moroccan.
One fan however stood up for Riad: “For those who criticize Chadi Riad, it is his first game in the Premier League, it is normal to have mistakes, but there is no need to criticize it, you are horrible”.
Meanwhile, a second was also supportive blaming the rest of the team: “Chadi riad so unlucky his team left him for dead”.
Another fan commented that Riad is showing signs but needs to adapt his game: “There’s a player there but Chadi Riad is gambling with the long passing and giving the ball away a bit too much”.
A fifth critiqued Riad for one thing: “Chadi Riad needs to learn how to pass the ball to a teammate”.
A final fan labelled Riad as being naive but is hopeful: “Riad is naive but looks like a player in him.”

As seen from this, it was not an atrocious debut and there are clearly some positives we can take from this display and hope that he can build on them next weekend.
At 21, he was never going to be an instant hit, but he is a long-term project so we should cut him some slack.
Not to mention that West Ham are one of the league’s strongest sides, so it was a baptism of fire in many ways.
