A Chelsea player has now turned down an approach from Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are looking to spend a £50.8m chunk of cash from the sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, although Dougie Freedman is not having much luck at the moment.

Crystal Palace have seen Sporting CP reject a £12.6m bid for Marcus Edwards, while Arsenal have also rebuffed an offer for Emile Smith Rowe.

Now, a player himself has snubbed Crystal Palace

Trevoh Chalobah rejects Crystal Palace

Respected journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed on Substack that Trevoh Chalobah just rejected an approach from Crystal Palace.

It was also said that the Chelsea No.14 “turned away approaches” from two other Premier League clubs as he aims to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah – who Alasdair Gold claimed Chelsea value at £30m – made just ten Premier League starts last season as he battled against injuries, and actually started the final five Premier League games of the 2023/24 campaign in a row as Mauricio Pochettino guided the Blues to five straight wins.

However – now the Argentine has been replaced by Enzo Maresca – the man from Freetown’s future in west London is very uncertain.

Approach makes no sense

Chalobah can operate as a centre-back or as a right-back, two areas in which Oliver Glasner already has plenty of options.

In the centre, the Austrian can call upon Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Chris Richards, Chadi Riad or Rob Holding, while Nathaniel Clyne and Jefferson Lerma also shone when used as central defenders last season.

On the right, Glasner has Daniel Munoz, with Joel Ward and Clyne as backup options behind the Colombia international.

Therefore – unless we lose a key man in the defence – a move for Chalobah makes no sense whatsoever, especially if he is valued at £30m.

Hopefully, Freedman does take no for an answer on this occasion, and moves onto a more sensible target for Crystal Palace.
