Crystal Palace are looking likely to have a season fighting relegation if the opening six games are anything to go off.

Winless in six games, Oliver Glasner’s exciting European dreams for the Eagles seem to have been ill-judged. However, who could blame fans for getting carried away after how the 2023/24 season concluded, with a winning streak which dragged Crystal Palace up to 10th.

This season has been the opposite of how last ended, and as a result, the Eagles sit inside the bottom three in 18th place, with only Wolves and Southampton below in the table.

19 SouthamptonSouthampton6 0 1 5 3 12 -9 1
20 WolvesWolves6 0 1 5 6 16 -10 1

The Eagles have only picked up three points this campaign to date, and these came in draws to Chelsea, Leicester and Manchester United.

At this rate, the Eagles are on track to grab roughly just 19 points throughout this season – a figure which would have Crystal Palace in some unwanted company among the teams with the lowest tallies in league history.

Now, a computer program has run through the rest of the season and calculated the chances of the Eagles suffering relegation.

Crystal Palace chances of relegation

When Paul Merson warned Crystal Palace over relegation, we were gobsmacked and assumed he would end up looking foolish, however so far Glasner has been proving him completely right.

Sitting in the bottom three after six games is far from the finished product this season, but it is also far from a good start and things must now improve.

As the season begins to heat up prior to the second international break, the Eagles will be delighted by how Opta have rated the chances of relegation.

#TeamRelegation %
15Crystal Palace10.10%
16Everton22.77%
17Wolves44.12%
18Ipswich51.45%
19Leicester62.67%
20Southampton89.85%

Despite sitting in the bottom three at the time of writing, clearly, the experts are not concerned for the future of the Eagles in England’s top division.

Despite this, it is not a sure thing, and the fact remains Glasner needs to make changes and fast.

What Oliver Glasner needs to change

Crystal Palace have a very talented squad – one which is far too good to be in the position it currently is in the league – with fans of Crystal Palace even singing songs about how bad things are.

Therefore, we are inclined to think Glasner needs to change things up in order to get his side firing.

There are some pretty clear changes needing to be made, despite Glasner’s reluctance to do so.

One change needed is to avoid playing Daichi Kamada in the midfield pivot while playing one of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah could also be a smart move unless a two-striker formation is in the works.
