Crystal Palace were close to appointing another coach before Oliver Glasner talks were started to replace Roy Hodgson.

Roy Hodgson‘s time at Selhurst Park looks to be over now, with reports accelerating over Oliver Glasner being the man to replace him.

That being said, Crystal Palace didn’t always see Glasner as the top choice and were engaged in discussions with 37-year-old Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna.

Ultimately this isn’t the way Palace are going with their managerial future. But with Glasner likely arriving, here’s the latest on Palace’s management hunt.

Crystal Palace were keen on appointing Kieran McKenna

According to Bobby Manzi writing for The Eagles Beak, Palace were actually set to appoint McKenna last week before the move fell apart late into discussions.

This failure to complete the McKenna acquisition led Palace to move on to other targets, in particular, Steve Cooper and the man who looks imminent now, Glasner.

Glasner is said to have met with Dougie Freedman and has impressed those in charge of making the decision.

That being said, Steve Parish is said to be yet to have met Glasner and it is he who has the final say on the matter.

Are Palace making the right decision with Glasner?

Palace choosing to appoint Glasner is a move which many didn’t see coming with managers with English experience mainly being named.

That being said, Glasner is a Europa League winning coach and has been targeted by some of Europe’s elite which should mean he’s an absolute coup.

While the risk is high, Glasner has the pedigree and tactical nouse to be successful and we can’t wait to see how high he can take Palace over the next couple of seasons.
