Adam Wharton made headlines after scoring his first goal for Crystal Palace in the 2-2 draw at Brentford on Sunday.
The strike itself was impressive, but the England international became a topic of conversation more for the manner in which he celebrated his effort – launching into a cartwheel then a backflip, just like he did when scoring at Blackburn.
It took 94 games for Crystal Palace fans to see Wharton pull off his trademark celebration, but it was certainly worth that wait. After the match, several of his teammates at Selhurst Park and Declan Rice reached out to offer their congratulations.
Who deserves to start up top in the UEFA Conference League final? 🤔
Glasner seems to trust Mateta more at the moment… 👀
Declan Rice hails Adam Wharton as Yeremy Pino brands Crystal Palace No.20 a “baller”
Wharton uploaded photos of himself celebrating the effort on Instagram, captioned: “First goal for Palace. What a feeling.”
In response, Rice wrote “congrats Ads” along with an applauding emoji (👏).
Several of the 22-year-old’s Crystal Palace teammates also commented on the post.
Pino – who feels Wharton could play for Spain – wrote “baller” as Tyrick Mitchell hilariously posted a GIF of a gymnast doing nine backflips in a row.
Ismaila Sarr also commented albeit only using emojis, posting two heart emojis and two fire emojis to congratulate his mate, while Daniel Munoz wrote “congratulations papi” in response.
David Ozoh – who shone on loan at Derby this season – also posted a heart emoji and a fire emoji like Sarr.
Who deserves to take the crown from Daniel Munoz? 👑
This moment had certainly been brewing in recent weeks.
Wharton saw an effort from range saved by Dmytro Riznyk when Shakhtar Donetsk came to Selhurst Park recently, only for Munoz to follow up and force an own goal.
The Blackburn-born midfielder then struck the post when shooting from range during the 2-2 draw against Everton.
Wharton has clearly been eager to find the net in recent games, and he should take plenty of confidence into the UEFA Conference League final next week after finally scoring his first goal for Crystal Palace.
