John Textor is expected to sell his 45% stake in Crystal Palace this week.
The Daily Mail published an exclusive last week claiming that Textor will sell to Zechariah Janjua and Navshir Jaffer – who are both said to be Crystal Palace fans – in a £230m deal as the American aims to bring an end to his involvement at Selhurst Park.
It was said that the man from Missouri opted to sell to Janjua and Jaffer as he felt they held Crystal Palace’s best interests at heart – more than other bidders did.
Now – however – John Textor could face a problem as Lyon experience financial issues.
Financial problems at Lyon may impact on value of John Textor’s 45% in Crystal Palace
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has now provided an update on financial problems at Lyon – and how they could impact Crystal Palace.
He wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “The situation at Lyon worries me. If no financial contribution – in terms of cash/liquidity – arrives by Christmas, the club could really be downgraded as a precautionary measure. A financial influx is necessary. John Textor’s shares in Crystal Palace are worth more than €200m (£166.4m) but who’s going to buy them? Who is going to pay €200m for Crystal Palace shares so as not to be the majority shareholder, and therefore let another shareholder play with their money? (Textor’s) valuation of Eagle shares at CPFC is, in my opinion, utopian.”
Effectively, we deduce that Tavolieri is saying Janjua and Jaffer may sense an opportunity to buy Textor’s 45% stake for a lot less than £230m – given his need for cash to keep Lyon in a healthy position and the fact Steve Parish has power over decision making.
Crystal Palace clouded in uncertainty
Things are never straightforward at Crystal Palace.
The euphoria of how last season ended has quickly disappeared, with the Eagles now sitting 18th in the Premier League after one win in 11 games amidst uncertainty in the boardroom.

Naturally, questions are being asked about sacking the manager too, but it is believed Crystal Palace are sticking with Oliver Glasner and are optimistic the Austrian will navigate us out of this sticky spell.
Hopefully, we can start to pick up some wins and Textor manages to sell his 45% stake too, as there are far too many negatives associated with Crystal Palace right now.
