How Jesurun Rak-Sakyi really feels about not being loaned out by Crystal Palace last season

Crystal Palace starlet Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has been involved in one of the transfer sagas of the summer, following plenty of interest in his services.

The young forward has been growing in stature as he looks to make his breakthrough at Selhurst Park consistently.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi came through the Crystal Palace academy system and after a promising loan spell at Charlton in 2022/23, there were high hopes for the following season.

The Eagles kept the 21-year-old in their ranks last campaign, rather than sending him back out on loan, which led to injury issues and selection headaches ahead of him.

That led to just eight appearances for the Crystal Palace first team across all competitions, which may have been less productive than a loan elsewhere.

So that’s the plan this summer, where despite interest from teams in signing Rak-Sakyi permanently, a loan is set to go through.

Sheffield United are set to win the race to sign Rak-Sakyi on loan, with hopes of helping the Blades earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi verdict on Crystal Palace loan decision

After a summer which has seen Southampton and Leeds United linked with permanent deals for Rak-Sakyi – along with plenty of the Championship showing loan interest – it’s been a whirlwind window so far.

However, it seems as though there has been some unrest bubbling around the winger’s situation for the past year or so.

According to the Athletic, Rak-Sakyi has been unsettled after not being allowed to move on loan last season to continue his development.

Palace are claimed to prefer a loan move this time around, with the belief that he could become a player in the same value range as Omari Hutchinson – who moved to Ipswich Town from Chelsea for £20million this summer following a loan last season.

It remains to be seen whether that will be the case, but the decision to secure a loan move comes intending to improve for another campaign.

Where does Jesurun Rak-Sakyi fit in at Crystal Palace?

So with a potentially big future ahead of him, there are plenty of questions about where Rak-Sakyi could fit in Oliver Glasner’s plans in the seasons ahead.

Plenty of that may depend on his performances for Sheffield United this season, as an impressive campaign may get him a shot in the Premier League, while a poor season may lead to more time needed to develop.

Should the 21-year-old perform well, there should be space for him somewhere in the team, as Crystal Palace have shown trust in taking top Championship players and handing them game time.

With three years left on his contract, there is some security there but next summer will add further questions over his future and any possible sale before his value drops in the final 12 months.

It remains to be seen exactly where that leaves Rak-Sakyi, not least if another forward signs this summer, but it’s clear that plenty hinges on his season at Sheffield United.
