How Premier League managers reacted to Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson’s incident

Crystal Palace’s managerial situation has remained unresolved heading into this weekend as Oliver Glasner awaits his appointment.

On Thursday, it seemed as though Roy Hodgson was imminently set to depart Selhurst Park as talks accelerated with Oliver Glasner.

This however has been put on hold as a more important thing has taken priority, that being Hodgson’s health.

Hodgson is said to have collapsed in training which left staff and players distressed and concerned for the 76-year-old Palace boss, although he is now said to be recovering well.

On Friday, it was then reported by Ed Aarons from The Guardian that Hodgson is expected to step down from his position as manager on medical grounds, which will leave Glasner free to take the job over.

But amid the concern over Hodgson, Premier League managers have been sending well wishes to Hodgson. Here’s what was said…

What have Premier League managers been saying about Roy Hodgson?

As would be expected given the situation, Hodgson’s peers were concerned for him, and some even sent him messages.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was one to send Hodgson good wishes according to The Mirror: “I don’t know the exact details, hopefully, he is feeling much better.

“If that’s the case, and knowing Roy, I think he will be in tomorrow – because he loves it so much. But we all got really worried with the situation and hopefully, he is fine.”

Another who shared a message was West Ham’s David Moyes who was quoted by Sky Sports: “Roy Hodgson’s a good friend, and he has been for many, many years,” Moyes explained. “He’s been a great colleague for a long time, as well.

“I’ve always said I’m not sure if I’ll still want to be working when I get to Roy’s age! He’s got a great love for the game, and his longevity has been incredible. I wish him all the best.”

Finally, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou sent his own message: “It is a weird sort of occupation we have,

“There are not many where people pretty much dictate or try to create a narrative where you are pretty much finished and also putting up your replacement. Roy is still in the position, but that is the way of the world nowadays. I guess we signed up for it, so everyone kind of expects it.

“But I don’t think it diminishes Roy’s standing in the game in any way and above all hopefully he bounces back quickly.”

Who will be in charge of Crystal Palace on Monday?

So as of now, it seems Palace won’t have either Hodgson or Glasner in charge for Monday’s crucial game against Everton.

This likely means, as The Sun has reported that Paddy McCarthy is likely the one who’ll take charge for the crucial game in the relegation battle.

This wouldn’t be McCarthy’s first rodeo leading the team however, as he also took charge of last season’s trip to the Emirates after Patrick Vieira was sacked.
