Dougie Freedman is often heralded as an excellent director of football, but now it has emerged that Oliver Glasner has been frustrated by the Crystal Palace chief.

Things are certainly looking on the up for Crystal Palace after a season which started worse than Oliver Glasner would have even dreamt.

After drawing with Newcastle at the weekend, the Eagles have now lost just one of the last five Premier League games and moved out of the relegation zone as a result.

Sitting on nine points, a win or two would lift the Eagles all the way up to 15th and potentially higher in the future.

But in order to do so, winter additions to the squad will be needed – but Glasner will be hoping these happen differently from how business was done over the summer.

Oliver Glasner frustrated by one thing Dougie Freedman did in the summer

Glasner saw seven players arrive in the summer, along with a number of big departures. Of the group to join, four were deadline-day additions which is something Glasner is keen to avoid repeating.

Speaking to the media before Crystal Palace travel to take on Ipswich, Glasner made it clear he wanted business done early.

When asked about the first 13 games this season, Glasner had a damning verdict on the summer’s transfers.

“It’s not that we have a big summary, there’s no time to make a summary on the first 13 games.

“It’s pretty clear that how we acted in the summer shouldn’t be repeated in January.

“We should do much better altogether. This is what we are preparing.”

Who Crystal Palace should sign for January 1st

With January fast approaching, we would imagine that Freedman’s work will already be well underway in order to bolster the squad.

Romain Esse looks like the player most likely to join Crystal Palace in January at the moment as the Millwall winger gets better and better as the season goes on.

This could fulfil the creative attacker role Crystal Palace wants to strengthen. While a wing-back is the second area an addition is needed, with Sunderland’s Dennis Cirkin surely among those catching the eye.

With a few smart additions, the Eagles could leave relegation fears in the dust, especially if December sees some excellent form picked up – all starting tonight against Ipswich.
