Dean Henderson’s Crystal Palace debut did not go as planned as the English goalkeeper picked up an injury in 17 minutes against his former side Manchester United and Roy Hodgson has provided an update on the player.

Sam Johnstone has remained the number one for the time being and it looks like he will stay the first choice due to Dean Henderson‘s unfortunate start to life at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to the Crystal Palace media team on Dean Henderson’s injury, Hodgson said: “Like all those muscle injuries the doctors can tell you which part of the leg the injury occurs in, but are not prepared to give any suggestion on the severity of it.
“That will need a scan I am sure, and we will have to wait for the result of the scan. Often you have to wait a day or two before they can even do the scan. At the minute, we just know he had a very unfortunate end to a game he was really looking forward to playing.”
Goalkeeper injury will worry Crystal Palace
Even though the 26-year-old is currently not the number one choice, this injury will worry Palace. They will be massively hoping that it is only a short-term injury.
The Eagles spent a lot of money on him in this summer and arguably the fan base would have spent it elsewhere. Depth is lacking in attack but Palace were worried about having only one senior goalkeeper after the fiasco with Vicente Guaita.
With the Premier League club spending a lot on Henderson in the summer and it being claimed that he is also assumed to be the highest earner at the club, his injury will frustrate Palace fans who didn’t think he was needed in the first place.
For now, it will look like a lot of money has been wasted by the club and it won’t be helped by the fact that there are also a couple of injuries in attack.
It looks like the Eagles face a bit of a waiting game to see how long Henderson is injured for this season.
It didn’t look good as it was an injury that happened to the goalkeeper without any other player being near him.
