Shaun Derry has now reacted after Crystal Palace wonderkid Jesse Derry was named in the England U17 squad.
The 16-year-old has been recognised for an outstanding 2023/24 campaign so far.
So, how did Shaun Derry react after hearing the news about Crystal Palace gem Jesse Derry? Let’s take a look…
Shaun Derry reacts as Crystal Palace wonderkid Jesse Derry makes England U17 squad
Well, the Crystal Palace cult hero – who made 222 appearances for the Eagles – was understandably delighted after hearing that his son had made the England U17 squad.
Derry wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Congratulations Son. We’re all so proud of you. Have a great week.⚽️❤️”
It comes as no surprise to see Greg Lincoln name Derry – who experienced first team training under Roy Hodgson earlier this season – in his England U17 squad once again.

The Crystal Palace prodigy has already made three appearances for the England U17 squad since emerging as a standout talent in south London, impressively scoring four goals in those games.
For Crystal Palace’s U18 side this season, Derry also has an excellent record, scoring 11 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, while also providing four assists.
Who is Jesse Derry?
We are already starting to see the £20m academy redevelopment pay off through the emergence of David Ozoh this season, and Derry is another who seems capable of becoming a first team option within a year or two.
Similar to Zach Marsh – another clinical forward impressing within the Crystal Palace academy – Derry is prolific in front of goal, and is also capable of scoring special strikes.

The son of Shaun Derry recently won the Goal of the Month award for a stunning scissor kick against Brighton’s U18 side in February, having previously scored two goals and assisted another in a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture back in September.
Hopefully, Derry – who can play on either wing – continues on his current trajectory, and emulates his father’s efforts at Selhurst Park.
