What Bayern Munich chiefs are now saying about the agreement with Crystal Palace for Michael Olise

Michael Olise has made quite the stir at Bayern Munich since his departure from Crystal Palace in July.

The France international has already scored five goals in seven appearances for the Bavarians – while also providing three assists – as he strikes up a fine relationship with Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.

Crystal Palace negotiated a 15% sell-on clause for Olise when selling him to Vincent Kompany’s side, which was a shrewd move from Dougie Freedman, Director of Football at Selhurst Park.

Despite that, Bayern Munich still believe they robbed Crystal Palace in signing Michael Olise.

Bayern Munich feel they secured a bargain from Crystal Palace in Michael Olise

A story from the Mirror now states that Bayern Munich believe they landed a £100m player for only £50m when signing the 22-year-old in July.

It is said that club chiefs at the Allianz Arena are delighted by Olise’s start to life in Bavaria, having taken full advantage of his release clause at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace fans may feel annoyed to hear that, although we have simply been given a taste of our own medicine, having only signed the Londoner in the first place thanks to the £8m release clause in his contract at Reading.

Olise could have joined Eintracht Frankfurt before that switch to SE25 in July 2021, as Markus Krosche – Director of Football for the Bundesliga outfit – recently revealed that the German side were desperate to land the forward, but simply couldn’t afford the £8m fee at the time.

Dougie Freedman should have gone all out for Johan Bakayoko

Crystal Palace decided to replace Olise in the form of three different players – Eddie Nketiah, Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr – rather than sign a direct replacement.

It was a decision that is yet to bear fruit, with the attack currently looking very disjointed, causing results to suffer.

Freedman did have a move arranged for Johan Bakayoko, and in our view, the PSV Eindhoven No.11 alone would have been a wiser way to replace Olise, rather than sign three right footers who cannot provide the same balance to Glasner’s frontline.

Like Olise, the Belgian is incredibly direct and tends to cut inside on his stronger left foot from the right flank – as you can see below.

Hopefully, Freedman will explore a deal for Bakayoko again in January, as Crystal Palace are crying out for a left-footed attacker at the moment.
