Oliver Glasner has departed Crystal Palace as an undisputed legend of the club.
Nobody would have envisaged the Austrian bringing one trophy to Selhurst Park when he was hired to replace Roy Hodgson back in February 2024, let alone three – it has been a truly remarkable coaching achievement.
However, Nottingham Forest very nearly beat Steve Parish to Glasner, but a call from Evangelos Marinakis fortunately ended up helping Crystal Palace appoint the single best manager in our history.
Who should we be looking to keep around? 📝
Nottingham Forest felt Oliver Glasner would clash with Evangelos Marinakis
The Reds were looking for a replacement for Steve Cooper towards the end of 2023 and considered the 51-year-old a candidate, according to The Athletic.
However, those at the City Ground had concerns that Glasner would clash with Marinakis due to his abrasive style – which Parish certainly found out about back in January – and opted to hire Nuno Espirito Santo instead in December 2024 despite being impressed by the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss.
Just two months later, Parish appointed Glasner to replace Hodgson in February 2024 – and the rest is history.
The man born in Salzburg leaves SE25 with a quite incredible record, winning 53 and drawing 33 of his 121 games in charge, lifting the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League along the way.
| Matches | W | D | L | Goals | Points | PPM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 121 | 53 | 33 | 35 | 193:152 | 192 | 1.59 |
Not only that, but he has turned the Eagles into a highly attractive European outfit, one who still have a shot at hiring a precocious coach in Andoni Iraola – and also one who could attract some very talented footballers this summer with UEFA Europa League football to offer.
Football is a funny game. On their own way to desperately chasing silverware under the volatile Marinakis, Nottingham Forest actually played a key role in Crystal Palace winning three trophies – all while doing their very best to cause issues for those at Selhurst Park by whining to UEFA last summer.
Who do YOU want as the next Crystal Palace boss? 🤔
In the end, we always win.
