Two important players could be about to leave Crystal Palace in quick succession – with Sam Johnstone now in the spotlight.
Marc Guehi is close to joining Newcastle in a £60m deal – according to the Telegraph – and the Crystal Palace No.6 is said to be keen on finalising a move to Tyneside.
Now – however – another player also wants to follow Marc Guehi out of Selhurst Park…
Sam Johnstone wants to leave Crystal Palace
A story from talkSPORT now claims that Sam Johnstone wants to leave Crystal Palace.
It is said that the England international has no intention of staying at Selhurst Park to play second fiddle behind Dean Henderson – after the £20m glovesman took his place at the end of last season.
Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Southampton are interested in signing Johnstone, although Arsenal No.1 Aaron Ramsdale is also on the trio’s shortlist as well.
The man from Preston made 20 Premier League appearances last season – keeping six clean sheets – before an injury in March allowed Henderson to claim the No.1 spot under Oliver Glasner.
Profit margins could look very healthy at Selhurst Park
Football fans mainly just want to see their beloved team play well and be entertained, although for those with a keen interest in the financial health of the club, things are looking good at Crystal Palace.
The pre-season tour of the United States brought in a welcome chunk of cash, and the £50.8m sale of Michael Olise, who was signed for just £8m in a deal from Reading, will also do wonders for Crystal Palace in terms of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Once Guehi’s £60m move is finalised – a player who was signed from Chelsea for £18m – that will see another huge profit arrive at Selhurst Park, as would a fee in the region of £10m for Johnstone, who was signed on a free transfer back in June 2022.
The Crystal Palace No.1 – by shirt number at least – still has three years remaining on his contract, so we are well placed to receive a decent fee.

Hopefully, these huge profit margins will see more incomings arrive at Crystal Palace, after Chadi Riad, Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr were already snapped up by Dougie Freedman this summer.
