Crystal Palace are now in talks to sign a player who Will Hughes – and also Roy Hodgson – know very well.
Now that Michael Olise has officially completed his £50.8m move to Bayern Munich, it is time for Dougie Freedman to bolster Oliver Glasner‘s attack – following the signing of Chadi Riad to strengthen the defence, and Daichi Kamada for the midfield department.
As such, talks are underway for Crystal Palace to bring a player back to the Premier League…
Crystal Palace in talks to sign Ismaila Sarr
A story from the Daily Mail now states that Crystal Palace are holding talks with Marseille over a deal to sign Ismaila Sarr.
No, you haven’t somehow ended up back in 2020 – when Freedman bid £25m for Sarr.
Instead, Crystal Palace have resurrected interest in the Senegal international, who scored ten goals in 50 Premier League appearances during his time at Watford.
The Daily Mail also reinforce a story from Sacha Tavolieri – who claimed that Crystal Palace have held talks with Club Brugge about signing Antonio Nusa – while the article adds that discussions have also taken place with Monaco over a deal for Maghnes Akliouche.
Interestingly, the latter is currently with Jean-Philippe Mateta as part of France’s Olympic Games squad.
What Will Hughes has previously said about the Senegal international
As aforesaid, Hughes knows Sarr well – having shared a pitch on 47 occasions for Watford.
The Crystal Palace No.19 actually spoke to Watford’s official website about the £64,000-a-week forward back in February 2021, and only had nice things to say.
Hughes is quoted as saying: “He’s frightening. How he does it every single game is scary. Everyone talks about his pace and that’s brilliant, but his technique and touch at the pace he runs at is frightening.
“He does not stop for 90 minutes and it’s the control he has at such pace that is the most impressive thing. He’s a good lad, too.”
Hodgson also worked with Sarr at Watford, calling him a “quality” footballer.

Now – if talks between Crystal Palace and Marseille go well – Hughes could be reunited with Sarr at Selhurst Park.
