Crystal Palace are now working on a deal to sign Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough – a player Tottenham have watched for many years.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the latest on Crystal Palace and Ronnie Edwards? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace push to sign Ronnie Edwards

Well, the Eagles have wanted the 20-year-old ever since Patrick Vieira was at the helm in 2022.

Now – as detailed by the Evening Standard – Dougie Freedman is pushing to finally wrap up a deal for Edwards after already seeing three bids rejected.

Barry Fry – Director of Football at Peterborough – and Chairman Darragh MacAnthony intend to take the England U20 international back on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

That will suit Crystal Palace, as one of Marc Guehi – linked with Arsenal – or Joachim Andersen are expected to leave Selhurst Park in the summer.

It comes after the aforementioned Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph back in 2022 that “Spurs have been watching him for a long time” – although Tottenham now look set to sign Radu Dragusin from Genoa instead.

Crystal Palace set for discount

The Evening Standard add that Crystal Palace tried to sign Edwards two years ago, although Peterborough – in the Championship at the time – wanted £15m.

Now – however – after Peterborough dropped into League One, it is said that the central defender is expected to leave for less than this sum.

Therefore, Crystal Palace will be rewarded for showing patience in these negotiations if a deal can be struck, and hopefully, the money saved can be spent on other reinforcements for Roy Hodgson.

One player who could join Edwards in SE25 is PSG No.44 Hugo Ekitike – Arsenal No.14 Eddie Nketiah has also been mentioned as a target for Freedman.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Crystal Palace, as we look set to be active this month.
