Journalist admits it’d be a “surprise” to see Crystal Palace sign long-term target this summer

One Crystal Palace target is now looking rather unlikely this summer, as Graeme Bailey reveals it’d be a surprise.

For Oliver Glasner, we’d say there is one glaring position in his team right now, despite the fact he’s managed to adapt pretty well in a crisis.

Centre-half is the position and with Marc Guehi and Chris Richards injured, it’s left Joachim Andersen as the only natural in the back three.

This has seen Jefferson Lerma thrive as a centre-half, with Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne the other two to fill in.

So with this in mind, this summer is likely to see a couple of centre-defenders arrive to bolster the position.

But for Graeme Bailey, there’s one name which is very unlikely to arrive at Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace unlikely to sign Ronnie Edwards this summer

Speaking with HITC’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey, we asked about potential defensive additions this summer for Palace.

But one name that seemed like a fairly likely signing this summer over the past few months has been Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough United.

But this might not be as likely as it’s been made to seem.

“I’d be surprised if a Premier League club took him (Ronnie Edwards), if they did it’d be to loan him out.

“I don’t think he’s there yet (ready to start in PL). If Palace lose Marc Guehi do they sign Edwards? I don’t see that.”

He then continued to suggest if Edwards was signed, he’d not be anything more than a prospect to be loaned out.

Who are the alternatives to Ronnie Edwards?

While Edwards might not be on the cards, there have been multiple names linked to Palace which make more sense.

One is the Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi who has been linked in recent weeks on multiple occasions.

Another is Austrian youngster Leopold Querfeld who was linked in recent weeks as well.

Finally, Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera has also been linked since January.

With so many names being linked to Selhurst Park, clearly, it’s a priority and one which is likely to be seen as soon as the window opens.
