Crystal Palace are still hurting from Sunday’s hugely controversial defeat against Brentford as the 2024/25 Premier League campaign got underway.
Eberechi Eze saw his potential Goal of the Season winner ruined by Sam Barratt after the official bizarrely blew his whistle before the ball crossed the line, as Brentford then ended up taking all three points thanks to Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa securing a 2-1 win.
Now – however – Crystal Palace fans could have their moods lifted by a potential incoming, after a very cryptic post from a journalist…
Maxence Lacroix hint made as Crystal Palace lurk
Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany has now uploaded a very interesting post onto X (previously known as Twitter).
Firstly, the reliable journalist posted on August 16th that Crystal Palace are “pushing” to sign Maxence Lacroix from VfL Wolfsburg, and that personal terms have already been agreed with the Frenchman.
This update suggested that Dougie Freedman only needed to agree a fee with VfL Wolfsburg for the central defender before a deal could be completed, and Plettenburg has now quoted his own post with a green tick emoji – suggesting that a sum has now been agreed.

Lacroix spoke to Oliver Glasner on the phone as recently as April – as revealed by the defender himself – and it was the Crystal Palace boss who signed him for VfL Wolfsburg, so there is clearly a strong connection there.
Ultimately, any deal may depend on whether Newcastle finally meet our asking price for Marc Guehi – the Magpies most recently saw a £60m bid rejected for the England international, and are now considering abandoning negotiations.
Frenchman is clearly keen
Arguably the worst part about signing new players is having to convince them – it is always a boost when someone is eager to join, and the fact Lacroix agreed personal terms almost immediately is a positive sign.
The £57,000-a-week defender is highly rated across Europe, with Give Me Sport claiming that Liverpool are even huge admirers of the man born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
Lacroix is also only 24 years of age – like Guehi – and is very similar to the England international in terms of his composure in possession and tendency to dribble forwards.
WhoScored have dribbling down as a major strength for Lacroix, while he impressive registered a pass success rate of 85.2% in the Bundesliga last season.
