With deadline day underway, the rollercoaster of emotions has begun as after a huge boost Crystal Palace has now suffered a blow.
Crystal Palace are looking to announce a handful of new arrivals today with interest in as many as three new deals right now.
Adam Wharton is one, and he is imminently expected to join Palace with only the announcement remaining.
Joining him could be Middlesbrough’s 2022-23 hero Chuba Akpom who’s looking for an exit from Ajax.
But the rumours are hottest around West Ham man Maxwel Cornet whom Palace are keen on signing on loan today according to reports.
The £17.5m Ivorian 30-cap international first came onto the radar just yesterday and already it’s becoming a transfer saga with everyone having their own view.
Here’s the latest with Cornet’s potential move to Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace suffer Maxwel Cornet blow
Earlier we had reported Palace were well placed with their interest in Cornet, as the winger wanted a move away from the Hammers, but this has since been disputed.
Speaking on the BBC’s transfer gossip podcast this morning, Luke Edwards has had his say on the move, and it’s not too positive for Palace.
“We’ve been talking about West Ham being in the market for players needed to strengthen their attacking areas. So Cornet leaving I would find that as a bit of a shock, particularly with West Ham, [who] aren’t going to bring anybody in.
“So that may well not happen but he’s one of those players who’s on the periphery of things a little bit, at the Olympic Stadium or London Stadium as it’s now called. So yeah, Crystal Palace good move.”
West Ham could be inclined to let Cornet leave with his wages off the books
Although some might see West Ham shifting players out as a reason they may not let another go, it could be the opposite.
Cornet is on £65k-a-week at West Ham and given he’s made just two appearances in the league, he’s hardly justifying this wage.
Therefore the Ivory Coast international could be leaving to free up wages for West Ham to bring a replacement in.
We won’t have to wait long to find out though with just over 14 hours remaining.
