Crystal Palace are in real danger of losing Marc Guehi to Newcastle this summer.
Newcastle have just held positive talks with Crystal Palace about a deal to sign Guehi – who is believed to be keen on the move to Tyneside, according to iNews.
Now – however – another update has emerged, with Crystal Palace planning something quite remarkable in an attempt to keep Marc Guehi at Selhurst Park…
Crystal Palace hatch Marc Guehi plan as Newcastle lurk
A story from the Daily Mail now states that Crystal Palace are willing to make the England international one of the highest paid players in club history, in order to keep him away from Newcastle.
It is said that Crystal Palace are desperate not to allow Guehi to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park – which expires in July 2026.
If that does happen, the Eagles will not be able to demand a fee as high as £65m for the 24-year-old, which is Steve Parish’s current asking price.
The Daily Mail add that Newcastle’s latest offer was £15m away from this sum, although the Magpies are preparing a third bid to sign the man from Abidjan, who is now Eddie Howe’s No.1 summer target.

At the time of writing, Crystal Palace’s record salary is the £130,000-a-week Wilfried Zaha earned, before he left to join Galatasaray in July 2023.
The Daily Mail add that Oliver Glasner will request the signing of Maxence Lacroix from VfL Wolfsburg if Guehi does leave SE25 this summer – the pair have already spoken on the phone as recently as April.
Furthermore, Chelsea No.14 Trevoh Chalobah is also on the shortlist at Crystal Palace.
Oliver Glasner may need both Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah
In truth, Dougie Freedman might end up needing to sign both Lacroix and Chalobah this summer.
Fulham have just opened the bidding for Joachim Andersen out of the blue, with the Cottagers offering £20m for the Denmark international just before Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Nantes at Selhurst Park.

That was according to The Athletic.
The story states that Crystal Palace want £40m and talks are continuing, which suggests – to us at least – that Parish is open to a sale.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Selhurst Park, as Glasner could lose both Andersen and Guehi this summer.
