Any new Crystal Palace contract for Adam Wharton would likely include a sell-on clause, amid ongoing transfer interest from Real Madrid.

Adam Wharton has established himself as one of the world’s most exciting young midfielders following his £18million move from Blackburn Rovers to Crystal Palace in 2024.

Now a full international for England, the 21-year-old has made 41 total Premier League appearances for the Eagles with five so far in this 2025/26 season.

Wharton recently returned from injury at Crystal Palace and starred in their 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend. Oliver Glasner’s side now find themselves in 3rd place of the Premier League table.

But Wharton’s links to Real Madrid among other European giants, with the likes of Man City mentioned, don’t seem to be going away.

Crystal Palace open to new contract for Adam Wharton

When Wharton signed at Selhurst Park last year, he penned a deal until the summer of 2029. Now, an emerging report from BBC Sport says that Crystal Palace ‘are open to extending’ Wharton’s deal, adding that ‘the insertion of a release clause, which would likely run beyond the £75m mark’ is certainly possible.

However, We Are Palace understand that talks between Wharton and Crystal Palace are far from reaching that stage just yet. We understand, though, that Palace are trying to put together a new deal for Wharton, whilst the club realises he is likely the next big star to leave the club.

How Adam Wharton feels about a potential move to Real Madrid

At 21 years old, Wharton has the world at his feet. And with a deal until 2029, Crystal Palace are in a very strong position with regards to his future: they’re under no pressure to sell and with no current release clause, the Eagles can charge what they want.

So it’s unsurprising to hear Palace are only ‘open’ to a new contract and that they aren’t pushing for one. But expect Steve Parish to certainly have a price in mind, with previous reports suggesting somewhere beyond the £100million mark.

But, as per previous reports, Wharton is happy to remain at Crystal Palace for the time being. He’s getting great exposure under Glasner and playing in a Crystal Palace team that’s exceeding expectations this season.

On top of that, Wharton and Palace are playing in Europe, so there’s not much more he can ask for right now.
