However, the past two weeks have witnessed decent displays against Liverpool in defeat, and then a brilliant comeback to grab a point against the treble winners Man City.
Despite all of this, it might not be enough with several names circulated in connection with taking his job and to make matters worse, one of the top contenders is about to become available.
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has been having a torrid time of late at the City Ground and it’s no surprise given the strained relationship between owner and manager, that he is reportedly about to lose his job.
But this could be good news for Crystal Palace.

According to various reliable outlets, including Fabrizio Romano, Steve Cooper’s time at Forest is due to be cut short.
The plan for Forest is to bring former Tottenham and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo back to England where he would be tasked with keeping Forest out of the relegation zone.
An agreement is believed to be imminent which will leave Cooper jobless as The Times reports, but no doubt a very attractive proposition to multiple clubs who are considering a managerial change.
One of these clubs could and probably should be Palace who have a squad Cooper could transform. So with The Eagles known to be huge ‘admirers’ of Cooper, could he be about to find himself a new job instantly?
Steve Cooper is a manager too good to miss out on
Despite the fact he’s possibly being sacked by a club lower in the league than Palace Cooper is still an absolute must for Steve Parish if he wants to make good on his ridiculous promise from 2015.
In seriousness, the Forest side which has been built over the past year and a half, while full of quality has been something of a scattergun approach to recruitment which would be difficult for any manager to succeed with.
However, at Palace, Cooper will inherit a settled group and a club that for the most part are well-organised along with having players capable of true magic on the ball.
Effectively, Cooper could take a step up in his career if he is sacked by Forest, but Palace must be in a position to capitalise.
