Former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has been speaking about how he would’ve handled the Marc Guehi saga this summer.
Marc Guehi‘s name dominated headlines over the summer. Liverpool tried to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace and made a last minute attempt on deadline day, but the Reds ultimately failed.
Reports claimed that Crystal Palace pulled the plug on Guehi’s move to Liverpool, and that Oliver Glasner had told the club that he would’ve left if Guehi had gone to Palace.
That suggestion has since been played down. But it’s understood that Glasner did have a hand in Guehi’s move to Anfield not going through: Guehi is also linked with Bayern Munich among other clubs.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed how he would’ve gone about the whole situation.

Alan Pardew would’ve kicked up a fuss over Marc Guehi drama
Pardew was speaking about Glasner and the Guehi deadline day drama, and he revealed that he would’ve thrown his toys out the pram if he was the Crystal Palace manager and if he was told that Guehi was being sold on deadline day.
Pardew said: “Well, I would have definitely tried to throw my toys out of the pram, so to speak. And I have done on several occasions. You have to make it as clear as possible to the owner that this can be a massive problem for you, for me to manage the team because the expectation of all the players drops when you sell someone like Marc.”
Pardew went on to add: “There was a certain amount of pressure, particularly on Steve Parish I think, from the American ownership perhaps to get that money. And I think Steve with his more football mind knew that the manager was going to be an issue, knew that Marc probably would still play at the same level, that it was a better call and I think that’s why they made it.”
Oliver Glasner explains what really happened with Marc Guehi on deadline
Amid reports that he threatened to leave the club, Glasner said himself that this was never the case. Glasner also explained how he and Parish spoke about Guehi on deadline and how the club might not cope if they had sold him to Liverpool.
Glasner said of the Guehi deadline day drama: “(This is) the last time I want to talk about it. The Crystal Palace fans deserve to hear how it really was, as so many things were written. Number one, I never threatened to leave the club. Never.
“The second thing, at the end of many discussions, the chairman asked me, Oliver, do you think we can manage the season (if) we sell Marc? I said, Steve, honestly, we can’t manage it in the short term.”
Guehi remains at Selhurst Park for the time being. It could be that he leaves in January but it’s now understood that Guehi is in no rush to leave Crystal Palace, and that a move next summer as a free agent looks like the likeliest outcome.
