Crystal Palace have made several key additions this summer, and now Dougie Freedman is planning on securing the future of one mainstay.
Transfer deadline day saw Crystal Palace bring four players into the club, significantly bolstering the options at Oliver Glasner’s disposal.
The centre-back slot is now looking very strong with Maxence Lacroix and Trevoh Chalobah both signed, and the attack also looks impressive after a few additions this summer, namely Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal and Ismaila Sarr.
The one position not strengthened was the wing-back role despite Glasner stating his desire to see an addition. But now one of his favourite and ever-present players at Crystal Palace is in talks to extend his stay.
Tyrick Mitchell in contract talks
Now the transfer window is closed, Crystal Palace can focus on securing what they have and the season ahead.
In order to do so, now the club have opened talks with Tyrick Mitchell about potentially signing a new contract at Selhurst Park, where he has become pivotal.
Now, according to Football Insider Mitchell is now set to be the subject of contract talks with Crystal Palace. Currently, Mitchell earns £40k-a-week and this contract at the moment is due to expire
Mitchell is among the top performers week in and week out for Glasner’s side and a new contract could fend off interest from England’s elite clubs.
Mitchell had been linked with Manchester United during the summer transfer window, and getting him tied to a new deal would be smart to avoid losing him.
Crystal Palace have multiple contracts to sort out
While talks with Mitchell have just been opened, there are other players who Crystal Palace are trying to sign to a new contract.
One of which is Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is currently not in contract talks with the club. Mateta and Crystal Palace have failed to agree contract talks so far.
Due to the contract talks faltering, Mateta has even revoked his iconic corner flag kick celebration until they have been resolved.
Along with this, chances are new and improved contracts for Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton could be sought in order to ward off suitors next summer.
Dougie Freedman could be a very busy man, but he has made a good start in pursuing Mitchell talks.
