FIFA avoid Crystal Palace payment amid ‘miraculous’ Yeremy Pino news

Crystal Palace have avoided a scare as Yeremy Pino already finds himself back in action for Spain at the World Cup.

The former Villarreal star appeared to have broken his collarbone during a 1-0 win for Spain over Uruguay in Group H, although scans later showed it was not that serious and was only an acromioclavicular sprain.

Pino trained alone for a few days, but was already back on the bench as Spain thumped Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32.

Crystal Palace would have been entitled to some compensation from FIFA had the 23-year-old been absent for much longer, but that will no longer be required after a recovery Luis de la Fuente described as a “miraculous” development.

What FIFA would have been required to do if Yeremy Pino missed 28 days

If the Crystal Palace No.10 was absent for more than 28 days, the Eagles would have been entitled to two weeks of his wages back, which are believed to be around £90,000-a-week.

Fortunately, we will not be receiving this small payment after Pino – who received support from Lamine Yamal – made a speedy recovery.

Speaking after naming the Spaniard on the bench for the Round of 32 clash against Austria, De la Fuente said: “Yeremy’s situation has been miraculous. It’s nothing serious – he has trained completely normally.”

Those comments came after the Spain boss initially caused some panic back at Selhurst Park by saying: “It looks like Yeremy may have broken his collarbone. Tomorrow they are going to do some tests and we will see how far the injury is. The man is suffering a lot.”

A broken collarbone would have seen Pino miss practically all of pre-season under Pierre Sage, although all now appears to be well after an initial fright.

Hopefully, the man born in Las Palmas gets a chance to feature more for Spain in the Round of 16 clash against Portugal on Monday, having only played 69 minutes at the competition so far.
