Crystal Palace were linked with a move for former loan man Conor Gallagher at the end of the summer transfer window this year.
Crystal Palace had a relatively steady summer transfer window, largely dominated by the £67million sale of Ebere Eze to Arsenal.
Oliver Glasner’s side spent big on Yeremy Pino who’s been impressing for Crystal Palace lately, and Jaydee Canvot who’s yet to make his Premier League debut for the Eagles.
One player who Glasner wanted but couldn’t sign in the end was Conor Gallagher. The former Palace loan man is now at Atletico Madrid, but the Eagles were linked with a return for the England midfielder towards deadline day.
Gallagher spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea where he scored eight goals and assisted three more in 34 Premier League outings for the club.

How has Conor Gallagher fared since missing out on Crystal Palace return?
Gallagher’s returning links to Selhurst Park were quite fleeting. But they were prominent nonetheless and Palace fans might be interested to know that Gallagher has been in and out of Diego Simeone’s starting XI since the summer transfer window slammed shut last month.
He’s played seven times in all competitions since then, scoring once but starting only three of those games. So far this season Gallagher has played eight times in La Liga but has started only two of those games, playing much more of a backup role this time round.
And since deadline day there’s been a bit of noise regarding his future at the club, with new interest and a new stance from Atletico, regarding the 25-year-old’s future in Spain.
Atletico Madrid make Conor Gallagher transfer stance clear
A recent report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo revealed that Atletico ideally want to keep Gallagher, but that they’d be willing to part ways at a price of €60million (£52.1million).
The same report adds that Gallagher is determined to play regular first-team football in a bid to be in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup next summer and that several teams, including Crystal Palace, are exploring a winter move.
Man United and Spurs are also reportedly interested but it’s not yet clear whether or not Gallagher would favour a return to the Premier League, or a return to Selhurst Park.
But given Palace’s fine form and the fact that Gallagher previously prevailed in South London, a return to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal could be a move that works out well for all parties.
