Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Maxence Lacroix from VfL Wolfsburg.
Dougie Freedman has opened discussions over a deal for the Frenchman as Marc Guehi heads to Newcastle in a £60m deal.
However, a story from Kicker in Germany has now provided plenty of doubts surrounding the situation involving Maxence Lacroix and Crystal Palace…
VfL Wolfsburg surprised by Maxence Lacroix rumours
A story from L’Equipe recently claimed that Crystal Palace have opened talks with VfL Wolfsburg over a deal to sign Lacroix – and the French news outlet even stated that a bid has been made.
Now – however – Kicker are reporting that VfL Wolfsburg have no knowledge of this.
The German news outlet state that the Bundesliga side are surprised by L’Equipe’s story about Lacroix, as nobody from Crystal Palace has been in touch with either Managing Director Peter Christiansen or Sporting Director Sebastian Schindzielorz this summer.
Interestingly – however – the central defender is training alone and is also refusing to sign a new contract with just 11 months remaining on his current deal, so he does seem keen on a move.

Lacroix also admitted that he spoke to Oliver Glasner on the phone earlier this year after Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Liverpool, showing that the pair still boast a strong relationship from their days together at VfL Wolfsburg.
Therefore, despite Kicker refuting the claims, there is still a lot to suggest the 24-year-old may be joining Crystal Palace this summer.
Crystal Palace have an alternative
Lacroix is not the only central defender Freedman is considering to replace Guehi.
A story from the Daily Mail states that Crystal Palace have also shortlisted Chelsea No.14 Trevoh Chalobah – who has been told he can leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chalobah is expected to cost £25m after being left out of the United States tour by Enzo Maresca – whereas no exact fee has been reported for Lacroix.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – as things stand, it seems either Chalobah or Lacroix will be replacing Guehi once the England international’s move to Newcastle is complete.
