The goalkeeper department at Selhurst Park has undergone an overhaul recently, with Dean Henderson now the bonafide number one.

After a summer in which we saw Sam Johnstone depart, there was one victor in the fight to be Oliver Glasner’s commander-in-chief in between the sticks.

This was Dean Henderson who came out on top after Johnstone was controversially stripped of the No.1 jersey.

Behind Henderson, the Eagles brought in Matt Turner from Nottingham Forest – although he is yet to make an appearance.

Going forward in subsequent seasons – chances are that Henderson will be supported by one of the two young goalkeepers on the books at Crystal Palace right now.

Owen Goodman reveals what Vicente Guaita gave him

So far this season, both Joe Whitworth and Owen Goodman have been impressing while out on loan away from Selhurst Park.

Goodman has been at Wimbledon on his loan as the 20-year-old looks to stake a claim that he can be a first-team goalkeeper for the Eagles.

Speaking with the Standard, Goodman gave an exclusive interview and discussed several topics which are surrounding his career at Crystal Palace.

“That is my dream: to play for Palace”, Goodman explained to Dom Smith.

Continuing, Goodman told some interesting stories about both Dean Henderson and Vicente Guaita.

“The keepers have always been really good with me. When I was about 14, I had the most run-down boots.

“Vicente Guaita was always good and gave me his boots and Dean Henderson is a great guy to be around.”

Goodman being a boyhood Crystal Palace lad means we would love if we got to see him make it at the club.

Crystal Palace loanee impressing at Wimbledon

At 20 years old, Goodman is now showing himself to be more than good enough for senior football with Wimbledon in League Two.

Continuing on from his impressive loan form in 2023/24, Goodman has been immense for his 2024/25 side.

Already Goodman has kept four clean sheets – while conceding just four goals in six games in League Two this season.

This has seen him average a match rating of 7.35 out of 10 on FotMob, which demonstrates how good he has been this season so far.

Goodman has averaged a 78.9 per cent save percentage while preventing 0.85 goals which ranks him among the best in the league.
