Three losers from Crystal Palace signing Ismaila Sarr

Ismaila Sarr is the third summer signing at Crystal Palace, but after his arrival, three players could be considered as losers from the deal.

Oliver Glasner’s starting lineup is coming together after a third arrival of the summer saw Ismaila Sarr join from Marseille.

Glasner has already spoken of his delight after Crystal Palace announced the move on Thursday, along with Steve Parish – while Dean Henderson welcomed him to the club.

Sarr himself also added that former Eagles midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate had told him great things about Palace before he made the move.

While it is an exciting swoop from the Eagles, there are some players who won’t be thrilled with the signing of Sarr.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

For Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, the arrival of Sarr will likely be the deciding factor in his push to leave this summer.

Rak-Sakyi has been reported to be keen to head out on loan – although permanent interest has also arrived recently.

Having impressed in pre-season, it is clear that the winger is ready to play regularly, but if that isn’t going to happen then he’ll likely be best off being loaned.

He’d have hoped that an excellent pre-season form might show the club he’s good enough to be the Michael Olise replacement – and he might still be, but for now, he’s one player to lose from Sarr’s arrival.

Jordan Ayew

Next up on the list is Jordan Ayew, with the Ghanaian international already the subject of interest from Leicester City ahead of a potential move this summer.

Sarr’s arrival therefore might just expedite the situation as he is now surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park.

His future may depend on Rak-Sakyi, but with Daichi Kamada and others capable on the right, Ayew might just be the odd one out this summer.

Sarr will directly take minutes from Ayew, and therefore he’s second on the list of losers from this deal.

Ebere Eze

Finally and probably most surprisingly, Ebere Eze makes the list but not for reasons many would expect.

The £100k-a-week ace thrives off link-up play and with Olise, he had that in abundance – but with Sarr, this could be diminished thanks to the Senegalese winger’s qualities lying elsewhere.

Sarr is more of a classic winger who has the speed in behind but is less of a player to come inside and combine – that being said he can do this, it just isn’t as great a strength as some other options Palace considered.

We’re sure Sarr will be a success, but it could come at the casualty of the Eagles losing that dynamic pairing behind the striker as they morph into two separate players.
