Crystal Palace could now turn attention toward a player that Patrick Viera tried to sign in 2021 in a bid to replace Michael Olise.

Friday, June 14th 2024 is only day one of the summer transfer window and already Crystal Palace have been incredibly busy.

The opening of the window has already seen Chadi Riad confirmed by the club to be Oliver Glasner’s first signing as manager of the Eagles.

This isn’t all as Daichi Kamada has also completed his medical and awaits an announcement of his own with a free transfer move set to be done.

For Dougie Freedman, this is a strong start, although he’ll be well aware that there will be plenty more to do, including having to potentially replace Michael Olise.

Crystal Palace could enquire about Noni Madueke

As the reports around Olise continue to heat up, so do the links with possible replacements as Freedman likely has a list of options for the event a sale ensues.

According to a report from Matt Law with The Telegraph, this could come in the form of Noni Madueke from Chelsea as he’s a player the Blues would part with to see Olise come the other way.

It’s thought that Chelsea could offer players plus cash in exchange for Olise and this ties into the fact that Palace are considering enquiring Madueke, following on from reported interest in January.

The 22-year-old only arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023 for a fee of £29m, but the way Chelsea’s recruitment is going, they look like they’d happily discard him this summer into the welcome arms of Glasner.

Madueke is probably the best ready-made replacement that Palace could get this summer, so if he’s offered with a heap of cash as well, it could be considered.

How does Noni Madueke compare with Michael Olise?

Both players are 22 years old, although without a doubt Olise is the better player right now. However, Madueke was an incredibly exciting prospect prior to making the Chelsea move, and even through struggles, he has played well at times.

But how do the two compare based on what they offer in-game?

From this, the two aren’t a million miles apart with Madueke only being given an average of 46 minutes per game which is hardly the formula for him to succeed.

Both are excellent dribbles, chance creators and goal scorers while capable of producing magic which does make Madueke the ideal replacement.

If Olise is going the other way, this move must be made by Palace and it could even work out for the better.
