Crystal Palace could sign Kylian Mbappe 2.0 in January as rumour emerges, it would be a big upgrade

Crystal Palace look likely to add goals to the squad in January, with multiple impressive strikers being linked with moves to Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner will be far from pleased with how the past three months have gone with Crystal Palace only picking up one Premier League victory, forcing the Eagles into 17th place.

While results have been an issue – a bigger problem has been the lack of goals being scored by the Crystal Palace attack, as solving this could also see the Eagles shoot up the league table.

The most frustrating part is that we know what Glasner is capable of leading his Eagles team to after the end of last season which was free-scoring and effective.

In order to right these wrongs, a new No.9 looks to be heading Dougie Freedman’s list this winter.

Mathys Tel has been compared with Kylian Mbappe

Some names linked have been Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson who would be a risk considering his injury proneness.

A younger option like Oumar Diakite has also been linked with a switch to Selhurst Park in January.

However, the most exciting link has seen Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel rumoured to be a possible option on loan.

As a player, Tel boasts several devastating tools which can tear defences to shreds and despite his failure to get minutes under Vincent Kompany, he remains an excellent forward.

Tel has been compared with Kylian Mbappe for his play style – with both being quick and good on the ball along with perfectly capable of playing up front or on the wing.

Last season under Tuchel, Tel scored seven goals and provided five assists which for a 17-turning 18-year-old is an impressive tally.

Kompany clearly doesn’t rate Tel, but this could be to Glasner’s benefit.

Tel would be a big upgrade for Crystal Palace

Signing Tel on a loan we have to imagine would be if Jean-Philippe Mateta is to depart as his contract talks with the Palace continue to stall.

Tel therefore would probably be leading the line and in terms of ability – he’d be a big upgrade on Mateta.

Along with this, Tel is much younger, and more mobile and in the unlikely event Bayern are looking to sanction a permanent move, Crystal Palace could have one of Europe’s future stars.

This all points towards this move being a big upgrade for the Eagles on Mateta – but of course, we will have to wait and see if anything comes from the rumours.
