On paper, the Crystal Palace summer transfer window looked to have been a great success, but seven games into the Premier League campaign, we are not so sure.
Dougie Freedman was very busy over the summer as he oversaw seven new arrivals at Copers Cope – with a handful being immediate starters.
Eddie Nketiah was the marquee signing of the summer at £25m, while Maxence Lacroix, Chadi Riad, Ismaila Sarr and Daichi Kamada were also excellent additions.
Matt Turner and Trevoh Chalobah arrived on loan and we were convinced this squad was good enough for Crystal Palace to fulfil Oliver Glasner’s European ambitions.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 16 | 7 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 15 | -8 | 5 | |
| 17 | 7 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 6 | 14 | -8 | 4 | |
| 18 | 7 | 0 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 10 | -5 | 3 | |
| 19 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 4 | 15 | -11 | 1 | |
| 20 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 9 | 21 | -12 | 1 |
However now seven games into the league campaign, the business Freedman has done will be looked at very differently as Crystal Palace remain winless.

Eddie Nketiah named among the worst signings made in the Premier League
Relegation fears are on the rise at Selhurst Park, although Opta has already predicted that the Eagles will survive.
If Crystal Palace are to improve, it won’t be through the help of Nketiah, at least if one Italian outlet is correct.

It is the Italian outlet TuttoJuve who have been ranking the transfer business done by Premier League clubs over the 2024 summer.
- 1. Matthijs de Ligt
- 2. Joao Felix
- 3. Eddie Nketiah
- 4. Joshua Zirkzee
In the four-man list, Manchester United quite embarrassingly had two names listed but it was the inclusion of Nketiah which caught our eye.
Nketiah is five games into his Crystal Palace career and so far has one goal, coming in the Carabao Cup against QPR.
Crystal Palace’s No.9 can prove everyone wrong at Selhurst Park
Despite a slow start to life at Selhurst Park, we still expect Nketiah to prove his doubters wrong – and one big difference-maker could be where Glasner plays him.
Up until the Liverpool loss, Nketiah was being used as a right-sided No.10 which is a role Crystal Palace fans were not impressed with.
During his one start as a striker this season, he was a lot more comfortable and even had the ball in the net – only the offside flag preventing a goal.
It is clear though that Nketiah as a striker is the way forward, as this also allows a more natural option to be used on the right.
