Crystal Palace are already weighing up transfer options ahead of 2025, with a Championship starlet being eyed.

The summer transfer window has only been closed a month and yet already Dougie Freedman is making plans, with a return to the Championship being rumoured.

After the success of poaching Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze from the Championship and most recently Adam Wharton from Blackburn for £22m, it’s no surprise the Eagles want to return there in future transfer windows.

Now, it has been reported that Crystal Palace have an interest in Millwall’s Romain Esse, but what do the club think about signing him?

How Romain Esse is viewed by Crystal Palace

Currently breaking out at Millwall, Esse is exactly the kind of player that Crystal Palace should be signing and bears some similarities with signing talented wide players like Eze and Olise from England’s second division.

Esse has started the season well, with his manager even admitting that a future Premier League move is likely.

Adding to this, Freedman had reportedly been scouting Esse in recent weeks, pointing to the idea Esse could soon be wearing the red and blue of Crystal Palace.

Despite Freedman scouting and Crystal Palace taking a keen interest – a move is not thought to be imminent.

According to transfer guru Alan Nixon on his Patreon, the Eagles like Esse, however, the thinking is he needs more time in the Championship to develop.

Esse is an England U20 international which is a testament to how impressive he has been – with his potential being the exciting reason the Eagles are showing an interest.

It could be that the Eagles sign him before loaning back to Millwall – securing his signature while allowing him to develop at a lower competition level where he will get minutes.

Dougie Freedman clearly wants a young winger

Esse is just one name being linked with the Eagles as it becomes clear that a new young winger is desired at Selhurst Park.

Tyler Dibling is one to be linked, although competition for his signature from the likes of Manchester United makes it unlikely.

Before the summer transfer window closed, the Eagles had targeted Rayan Cherki from Lyon – only for the French talent to opt for a new contract.

So with these links, quite clearly a new talented young winger is wanted by Crystal Palace with multiple options being considered – likely with an eye to eventually replacing Ismaila Sarr and Daichi Kamada who were cost-effective, yet temporary solutions.
