Dougie Freedman shows he has taken Oliver Glasner’s critique on board, amid exciting rumours

Oliver Glasner laid out a gauntlet for Dougie Freedman heading into the January transfer window and already Crystal Palace have responded.

After such a slow start to the Premier League campaign, Crystal Palace looked likely to be caught in a relegation battle.

However, after three games unbeaten, things are definitely looking up for Oliver Glasner and his Eagles side which sits 17th in the league.

Despite this, the transfer business must be completed in January with two positions on Dougie Freedman’s agenda.

Glasner has also outlined two positions ahead of the transfer window, along with a demand from the director of football.

Oliver Glasner had criticisms for Dougie Freedman

After a seven-signing summer, Glasner has only had one complaint. This being that signings were made two late in the window – with four on deadline day – which Glasner has suggested hindered him in the early weeks of the season.

These criticisms of Dougie Freedman, look to have already been answered as Steve Parish and the Scot work on a signing outside of the transfer window.

Crystal Palace are in talks for Romain Esse, with the 19-year-old forward a player we have long expected to join in 2025 as Freedman has been scouting him.

This is one of the only times we can remember such strong links outside of a window, at this rate the Eagles will surely be welcoming Esse in 2025.

However, there is one issue with this deal which won’t completely satisfy Glasner and that is Esse is expected to return to Millwall until the end of the season on loan.

Crystal Palace have listened to Glasner but need more

Despite a deal for Esse being progressed, Freedman will need to do more to win back the praise of Glasner – as Esse won’t help Crystal Palace this season.

With a tough run between now and the turn of the year, January will need additions for Crystal Palace.

An addition like Rayan Cherki for example would be incredible and likely delight Glasner.

So Freedman is working along the correct lines, but he needs to do much more in the next three weeks in order to give Glasner the platform to succeed for the rest of the season.
