Crystal Palace have several players that simply aren’t good enough and hopefully, 2024 is the year they depart.
As the new year rolls closer, Crystal Palace have seemed keen on making several signings – but this will require significant outgoings to take place.
At Selhurst Park, numerous players aren’t up to standard and for improvements to be made, they must be sold. This won’t include the possible departure of key players as we don’t want to see them sold.
Marc Guehi is linked with a move away from South London amid interest from Napoli along with a return to Chelsea. Michael Olise also needs to be kept at all costs but with a release clause, Palace could be powerless. While a new contract for Ebere Eze is in the works to ensure he remains at Selhurst.
So with key players off the table, here are the three players we think Palace should sell in 2024…
Jean-Philippe Mateta
The first player Palace should sell in 2024 is one who has proven clutch in December as he scored against both Liverpool and Manchester City, which will have given Steve Parish a huge decision to make.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is believed to want to leave in January which does force Palace’s hand in the matter. His future looks decided with countless strikers being linked with moves to Palace.
Ultimately, regardless of his recent form, a sale makes the most sense as he hasn’t been good enough since his arrival in January 2021.
His departure would allow for a quality arrival possibly in the form of Borja Mayoral who has been linked lately.
Joachim Andersen
Hear us out – Joachim Andersen at 27 is in his prime and therefore there is no better time to sell to gain funds to reinvest in the squad.
Andersen has previously stated his intention to leave Palace as he views himself spending his prime at a bigger club and his sale could fetch at least £30 million.
Newcastle are one side who would pay a lot for Andersen which could then be used to bring a younger talent to the club.
Obviously, Andersen right now is one of the best players on Roy Hodgson’s side, but it could be the right time to sell.
Jairo Riedewald
The last name on the list won’t be a sale but instead a free transfer departure. Jairo Riedewald has barely featured this season for Palace yet is taking up a large chunk of wages.
Currently, on £55k-a-week, Riedewald really doesn’t warrant an extension upon his current deal which expires in June 2024.
This is one of many players that Palace should be trying to shift on over the next six months, and one which could free up a space for a quality addition in this position.
Palace will be adapting from a Roy Hodgson side in 2024 and that new side has no place for Riedewald.
