Of all the weaknesses Crystal Palace had in the summer needing attention, there was one glaring position which Dougie Freedman missed off his checklist.
After a summer when seven players were signed by the Eagles, it is hard to say that more should have been done by Dougie Freedman.
Although even the business Freedman did complete has been critiqued, with Eddie Nketiah labelled one of the worst signings made in the summer.
Prior to the window, Oliver Glasner made it clear that he wanted one position strengthened and yet his plea seemingly fell on deaf ears at Crystal Palace.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 17 | 7 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 6 | 14 | -8 | 4 | |
| 18 | 7 | 0 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 10 | -5 | 3 | |
| 19 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 4 | 15 | -11 | 1 |
Now though, seven games into the league season without a single win perhaps this is a position which will get attention in January – but one target could be off the table by then.
Napoli now interested in Ben Chilwell
With strengthening at left-back a priority, Ben Chilwell from Chelsea has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park of late.
These links are despite Tyrick Mitchell being ever so impressive this season, but now there could be a problem arising.
This is as Napoli’s interest could mean they will take a second Eagles target from Freedman in recent months after Scott McTominay who Crystal Palace were linked with in August.

It comes according to The Sun, that outcasted Chelsea left-back Chilwell is now a transfer target for Napoli – with the Eagles also tipped as having an interest ahead of possibly moving in January.
Antonio Conte is a big fan of Chilwell and there is a chance he leaves Chelsea on loan in January before a permanent move next summer.
Napoli and the Eagles will also face competition from Fulham and Ipswich – with the Italian giants clearly at an advantage in this race.
Chilwell is supposedly open to making a move due to his lack of game time and almost exile at Chelsea.
Missing out on Chilwell would be a shame for the Eagles considering he is a real top-class left-back when given the chance – and he could also teach Mitchell a lot.
Every Crystal Palace left-back signing option linked recently
The good news for Crystal Palace is that missing out would still leave several options that have been linked in the last few months.
Gent’s Archie Brown is one left-back to be linked with the Eagles, a move which would see Freedman return to Gent after signing Daniel Munoz last January.
Alternatively, a return for Union Berlin’s Robin Gosens could be the way Crystal Palace leans after interest in the summer.
One final option who has been on the table during the summer particularly was Filip Kostic and the Eagles may still want him in January.
