For Crystal Palace, the 2024/25 season has gotten off to the worst start imaginable, and it is miles away from the pre-season expectations.
The Eagles have struggled, losing four of the opening seven games and winning none – a record which sees Oliver Glasner’s side in the bottom three and looking very poor.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 16 | 7 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 15 | -8 | 5 | |
| 17 | 7 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 6 | 14 | -8 | 4 | |

| 20 | 7 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 9 | 21 | -12 | 1 |
This has left Glasner scrambling for solutions, and a Crystal Palace formation change is expected after the international break.
Despite the appalling run of form, Glasner is said to retain the support of his players who back the Austrian to turn things around at Crystal Palace.
The attack has been the main issue for the Eagles this season, with the defence bailing them out on many occasions – with Marc Guehi being the star of the department.
Newcastle planning new swoop for Marc Guehi
Over the summer transfer window, Guehi to Newcastle was arguably the biggest inter-Premier League club transfer to be on the cards.
Newcastle offered £70m which was above Steve Parish’s initial valuation – but the Magpies annoyed the Eagles chairman which caused an increased valuation.
After the deal fell through, Glasner admitted he was never in doubt of Guehi staying at Selhurst Park.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Guehi is a target for Newcastle in 2025 along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City who all believe that the 24-year-old will be available for a slightly lower price – considering his contract expires in just over 18 months.
It is added that Newcastle are likely to make an offer, and could even test the Eagles with a bid in January if Guehi appears open to moving mid-season – with the Eagles anticipating a 2025 exit.
With so much interest and no indication of Guehi signing a new deal as of now, it seems increasingly likely a 2025 exit is going to happen – but reports have suggested that talk of Newcastle getting Guehi on a cut-price deal is wide of the mark.
How Guehi has performed for Crystal Palace in 2024/25
This season so far Crystal Palace may have conceded 10 Premier League goals, but things could have been a lot worse had Dean Henderson and his defenders not been on form.

Guehi has been the pick of the defenders at Selhurst Park this season – while wearing the captain’s armband.
Crystal Palace’s No.6 has been among the league’s best at winning duels, ranking in the 93rd percentile with 39.
Against Everton was Guehi’s standout performance despite Crystal Palace losing 2-1.

Guehi has been one of Crystal Palace’s standout players this season so far, and losing him in January in the midst of a possible relegation battle would possibly be a devastating blow.
The Eagles are not solely reliant on Guehi, with Maxence Lacroix also impressive, but his influence as captain means he would be a substantial loss if he were to depart especially mid-season.
